On October 24th, 2020, my YouTube channel Hardcore Crypto was mistakenly terminated by YouTube for violating community guidelines. The channel is the largest Cryptocurrency channel in Africa and loved by many.
One would hope that YouTube would help content creators in this kind of situation but it turns out that they don’t care. I’ve appealed and reached out on Twitter and got no help. Imagine years of work wiped out in a whim for no reason. Just like that. The sad part is that YouTube will never assign a human being to attend to your appeals or complaints, they force you to deal with robots.
The mistake I made was overleveraging myself by trusting a third party to host my content. This is a major flaw when using media as leverage online.
In this episode, I use this story as an example to discuss the concept of leverage online.
Enjoy!
